The design concept for this loft is to bridge the generational gap between a granddaughter and grandmother. Having grown up in different places with different tastes, the overall style will be Eclectic and Transitional. Original pieces that Esmée acquired shall be incorporated throughout the home along with the more contemporary furniture. Due to Esmée’s arthritis, Natalie wants to be sure the space is accessible and suites every need they will have to ensure Esmée is comfortable in this home as she continues to age.

During the pandemic, my client Natalie (she/her), transitioned her role to predominately online. She is the owner of a small tech company that has started to take off, so she is able to work from home. Her personal life changed drastically during the pandemic as she separated from her husband, John (he/him). They are currently trying to “work it out”, so there is a possibility he will move back in with her. While this was happening, her grandmother, Esmée (she/her), was hospitalized and had to sell her home when her husband passed away. Esmée is now moving into the new apartment with Natalie who will be able to assist her with any need.
Natalie is a thirty-two-year-old woman whose French heritage was passed down from her Esmée’s side of the family. Being seventy, Esmée moved to the states from France in her early twenties when her mother remarried an American man. She has always embraced her culture and is hoping the apartment has the same flare as a Parisian home in the city.
A limitation of being the caretaker of her grandmother is that she has Rheumatoid Arthritis. Esmée’s mobility issues got worse after she was hospitalized in 2020 and will need assistance with day-to-day activities. She used to be a principal ballet dancer, and although her mobility is not where it used to be, she is still active in the community and uses ballet to help keep her moving. They hope to accommodate this to make living easier but keep within the style of their choice as they take on a new chapter of their lives.
